E. Coli Found in Water
Recently, E. coli was detected in water samples from urban wells. It causes the well to stop using, and may affect your water service and your health. Palmer’s leaders said the pollution was found in the water last Tuesday. Wells was discontinued on Wednesday. Western Mass News interviewed a local resident and he told us that she started feeling unwell a few days ago. “At first I felt sick, so I had to lie down, lie down, and lie down again,” said Lynn, a Palmer resident. Palmer leaders warned customers in the town’s water district that on July 29, E. coli was found in three-fifths of water samples from a well in the town. E. coli from feces can cause the following symptoms: Diarrhea, cramps, nausea and headaches can pose health risks to children and the elderly. A resident felt these symptoms. “During the few days there, I just felt bedridden…I was just foggy and cloudy,” Lynn said.

She said she would go to see a doctor. Fortunately, her symptoms are relieving. “I feel better today. I can sit up,” Lynn said. She told Western Mass News that on Saturday she received an automated voice mail from the town warning her of the problem. “Basically, it’s animal and human feces. It does say call your doctor if you feel unwell,” Lynn said. Palmer leaders said that since Wednesday, these wells have been offline. You don’t have to boil the water, but you should consider removing ice cubes, beverages, formula and any undercooked food made with tap water on or after July 27. The water district did chlorinate two wells and two surface water sources. As of now, two reservoirs are supplying most of the water to the system. While officials are investigating the cause, one of the wells will be out of service. “I hope no one is as sick as I am,” Lynn said.
